The Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through our Five-Point Program Thrust of Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. Listed below are our program committees and responsibilities:
Arts & Letters
The Arts and Letters Committee promotes and supports cultural arts in the community and develop programs in accordance with the Grand Chapter’s directions.

These committees are responsible for coordinating activities for the sorority’s signature youth programs, as well as, Dallas Alumnae’s signature youth program. For more information, click the respective link below.

Delta Gems & Jewels
This is a committee composed of the children, grandchildren, God-children, nieces and nephews, boys and girls of chapter members between the ages of 2-12. Activities are planned throughout the sorority year to introduce the children to each other, teach them social graces, and to develop an appreciation for community service.
International Awareness and Involvement
Through international awareness and involvement projects, members of the chapter and the community broaden their knowledge and understanding of nations other than their own, increase interest in international affairs, and aid in developing a greater appreciation for people of different background and cultures.
Jabberwock
Jabberwock is our major fundraising event. Jabberwock is a youth development and scholarship program sponsored by our chapter, in partnership with Dodd Education and Support, Inc.

Physical & Mental Health
This committee is responsible for promoting good physical and mental health of Deltas and the community in accordance with Grand Chapter’s current initiatives.
Program Planning & Development
- This committee is responsible for planning and coordinating projects fostering community services and economic development, including Delta Academy, G.E.M.S., Joy Woodfork Beauty Salon, Community Market Festival, Teen Town Hall, and Project SEE.
Social Action
The Social Action Committee promotes leadership, advocacy and empowerment to effect social change and public policy in the community. The committee is the vehicle through which the Sorority establishes a position on an emerging or perennial public issue, determines the action to be taken, and directs the actions of our members. The committee implements projects and programs that stimulate social action and educate members and the community on current issues. Our focus are:
- To keep the community informed of current local and national issues, so as to be effective citizens and advocates;
- To encourage political awareness and participation in events, issues and concerns of the African American community;
- To foster increased elections or appointments of African American women in governmental policy-making positions, nationally and locally;
- To develop an appreciation within the African-American community of its influence, especially among its women;
- To encourage endorsement of legislation, national and locally, with particular interest to African Americans and women;
- To be knowledgeable of the accomplishments or inaction by local judicial and administrative agencies and officials;
- To volunteer as leaders in civic and social action organizations.
Scholarship & Education Support
This committee is responsible for administering the scholarship program to maximize benefit to
deserving, students who aspire for a higher education.
